A few words about trauma
Psychological trauma is something that is not easy to understand or recognize. It concerns
some negative experiences that a person may have experienced intensely. Many people do not
even know that some of their experiences may have left them with some trauma and that this
trauma may have an ongoing effect on their lives. The way one undergoes a difficult or
traumatic experience is not only about the severity of the event itself; a person’s age, family
environment and events following this trauma are important factors affecting this experience.
Psychological trauma is defined as an experience that causes an intense
emotional pain
Such a condition creates strong feelings of insecurity, pain, and a sense of powerlessness.
Traumas are stored in one’s memory and in their brain. Then the person cannot specifically
remember what has happened, except for fragmented memories, making traumas difficult to
identify.
A trauma can have different effects on a person's life. Perhaps the harshest consequence is
that it forces a person to shape their life and views of the world according to said event. If, for
example, a person was abandoned during childhood, it could prove difficult for them to trust
people in their life in general.
Very often a person may experience negative symptoms, mood and behavioral changes
which can be very intense, depending on the degree one’s trauma. Some of symptoms include
anxiety, depression, and panic attacks.
It is important to note, that if someone experiences difficult and unpleasant symptoms,
they should contact a psychologist, to recognize and identify the root problem that affects the
person.
